When did you join the forum? January 2016
Why? originally for information about services for my own children, however I quickly realised that I could help other parent/carers and have a voice on their behalf.
Tell us a little about your family? At home there is my husband Andy who keeps us all going and is my rock, we have a 21-year-old daughter Amy who has a diagnosis of Autism & Anxiety and a 18 year old son Benn who has a diagnosis of Autism and a severe learning disability. We also have 3 dogs, Luna & Lola & Maple, & 2 Cockatiels Mumble & Milo
What is your background? Before having my children, I had always worked within the care sector where I worked with in residential care homes for the elderly. I then worked in a residential home for young adults with Autism and a residential school for children with Autism.
What hobbies do you have, or how do you like to relax? I like to spend time with my family and enjoy walking our dogs, reading, and baking. I also like listening to music.
What music do you like listening to? depends on my mood, but a do not have a particular favourite.
What about TV or movies? My favourite films are musicals, and I love to watch soap operas such as Eastenders, Emmerdale & Coronation Street.
Anything else? Being part of the forum made me realise I was not alone and although each and every one of us has been on a different journey and had a different experience we can all support each other.
