Wellbeing for Parent Carers (SEND)

Making time to look after YOU and your health & wellbeing.

Designed by, and delivered by Parent Carers, who all have children and young people with SEND. and have done the programme.

The Healthy Parent Carers programme is designed to improve parent carers’ health and wellbeing by promoting empowerment, confidence, and resilience.

It was inspired by and developed together with parent carers from the Family Faculty in the Peninsula Childhood Disability Research Unit (PenCRU) based in the University of Exeter Medical School.

What’s it all about?

Healthy Parent Carer (HPC) is all about finding a few minutes a day to do something for you, and your health and wellbeing, which in turn builds us up to better care for our families – you’ve got to put on your oxygen mask before you can do anything for anyone else.

Based on the 5 ways of wellbeing – Connect, Learn, Be Active, Notice and Give, then Eat Well, Relax and Sleep were added to make the CLANGERS.  Each week, we look at how we can make CLANGERS part of our everyday life, helping to build a bit of bounce-back-ability, empowerment and  a general feeling of wellbeing.

The programme is ran in person, one day a week for six weeks, although if there is enough interest, we can do a 12 week Zoom programme, and all your facilitators will be fellow Sunderland Parents of children and young people with SEND, they have all done the programme themselves and completed the facilitator training ran by Essex University.

  • Most definitely NOT a parenting course!
  • Completely free for parent carers attending, we provide all the resources.
  • Small group sizes.
  • Support from other parent carers, making new connections and friendships
  • Learning something new and feel supported, without being judged, in a safe space.

The next in person Healthy Parent Carer starts January 15th 2025 – to book your place, click below
